Kelechi Prince Chima, MBBS
HIGH IRI Fellow | University of Oxford
Dr. Kelechi Prince Chima is a Nigeria and UK-certified physician, Rhodes Scholar, and Global Health researcher dedicated to advancing healthcare in resource-limited settings through evidence-based, technology-driven interventions. He is currently completing a Master’s degree in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford. Following this, he will embark on a DPhil (PhD) in Tropical Medicine and Global Health at the same institution, focusing his research on the potential impact of point-of-care diagnostics in primary care to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Nigeria.
Dr. Chima’s research contributions have been aimed at improving adolescent HIV outcomes in Africa. He led a pilot project for BILI, an innovative strategy utilizing USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) technology to enhance linkage-to-care for HIV self-testing among rural adolescents in Nigeria. This pilot informed a nationwide randomized controlled trial. Additionally, he co-led a global crowdsourcing initiative in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO, and UNAIDS to identify youth-led game-changer strategies for safeguarding adolescent health in high HIV-burden countries in the coming decades.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Dr. Chima serves as the Chair of the Adolescent HIV Prevention and Treatment Implementation Science Alliance (AHISA) Youth Advisory Board. This research network, comprising 26 teams across 11 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, focuses on addressing the implementation challenges of HIV interventions and policies for African youth. In this role, he is committed to enhancing the involvement of African youth in HIV implementation science research both within and beyond the continent.
