HIGH IRI Fellow | University of Toronto

Kalonde Malama, MPH, Ph.D., is a health researcher whose experience spans service delivery and research programs for HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. He has overseen a successful sexual and reproductive health program and a cluster randomized HIV prevention trial in Zambian government clinics. Kalonde has also supported the Botswana Ministry of Health in implementing a national demand creation plan for couples’ voluntary HIV counselling and testing. In his current position as postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto, Kalonde conducts research to improve sexual and reproductive health equity for diverse populations, including refugee and indigenous youth, and women living with HIV. He also has a keen interest in the intersectionality of HIV and non-communicable diseases, which he explores among people living with HIV and diabetes or hypertension. Through his community-engaged research, Kalonde hopes to contribute to the improved access to sexual and reproductive health services for marginalized populations, and the improved care of people living with chronic communicable and non-communicable diseases.
