Choolwe Nkwemu Jacobs, PhD

Choolwe N Jacobs is the Head of Department for Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the School of Public Health at University of Zambia. She is a Global Health Specialist and Epidemiologist with over 10 years’ experience in research and academia. She is a Co-founder and Country Lead for the Women in Global Health (WGH) Zambia Chapter. She is a health equity researcher and advocate with experience working on Gender, Sexual Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health (SRMNCAH), HIV/AIDS and non-communicable diseases. Methodologically, her work is focused on quantitative and mixed methods approaches that explores existing inequalities in health outcomes, access and utilisation of healthcare services particularly among marginalized populations. She is keen on improving equitable health outcomes and access to healthcare services by utilizing strong epidemiological, mixed methodologies, and implementation science. She is actively working on issues pertaining to mothers, newborns, adolescents, cancer, gender, HIV/AIDs and health workforce. Choolwe studied at the University of Zambia (BScN), University of Otago in New Zealand (MPH), University of Kwa Zulu Natal in South (PhD) and University of Johns Hopkins (Post-doc). She is a VIRDE fellow at Vanderbilt University and alumni of the Harvard University Global Health LEAD Fellowship.
