Dr. Basira Kankia Lawal is a pharmacist, academic, and researcher. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Management at Kaduna State University, Nigeria, with over nine years of teaching experience. Her research focuses on medication safety, health services research, and implementation science, with a broader interest in strengthening health systems and service delivery.
She has secured competitive grants for projects on safe medicines disposal and expanding the role of community pharmacists in primary healthcare. Dr. Lawal is a Senior Collaborator in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) Collaborator Network, a 2024 Mandela Washington Fellow, and a member of the WHO Global Patient Safety Network.
In 2022, she received an impact scholarship for the Leaders of Africa Institute Research Methods Program and was selected for the 2nd Biannual Grantsmanship & Mentorship Program by the Nigeria Institute for Medical Research, Lagos. She actively fosters interdisciplinary collaborations to translate research into practice, enhancing healthcare quality and patient safety.
