Heart for the Unhoused, Inc. is a non-profit organization, initially founded as a student group at Washington University in St. Louis in 2014. The organization promotes the well-being of unhoused individuals through working with community partners and establishing initiatives in volunteering, donation aggregation, and resource access.
Goals
Our goals are threefold:
- 1. to support local organizations in their mission to aid the socioeconomically disadvantaged
- 2. to gather donations with maximal benefit to the local community and fundraise for nonprofits within the community
- 3. to inform unhoused individuals of resources available within the community and ensure individuals have access to these resources
Organization Structure and Activities
Entrepreneurial and feedback-oriented, all projects ran by Heart for the Unhoused are designed to maximize, not just perceived, but the actual benefit to the communities we serve. We accomplish this by regular meetings with community partners and directly inquiring with members of the unhoused community concerning unmet needs.
Volunteering
Whether it be bringing small group of members to help serve food at a partner shelter, or hosting an organization-wide event, every volunteering session’s goal is to aid St. Louis’ unhoused community.
Community Support
We have over 100 students ready to support community organizations focused on aiding unhoused/under-resourced individuals.
