Typically, an organic chemical is thought of as any chemical that has a hydrogen-carbon bond. The most common form of organic hazardous waste is organic solvents. Organic solvents are carbon-based substances capable of dissolving or dispersing in one or more other substances. Organic solvents can be carcinogens, reproductive hazards, and neurotoxins. Many organic compounds also evaporate at room temperature and normal atmospheric pressure. These types of organic compounds are referred to as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) by the EPA and are common air contaminants.
