Campaigns

Throughout the academic year, our chapter organizes unique campaigns to fundraise money for UDHA. Some of our favorite campaigns include midnight munchies, finals gift basket sales, and working for the St. Louis Cardinals or STL City Soccer Club. Although campaigns involve plenty of planning and hard work, our community grows stronger as we work together. During the 2022-2023 academic year, we raised nearly $20,500!

Global Health University (ghU)

During weekly chapter meetings, our GHU co-coordinators facilitate discussions on global health topics, both local and abroad. Past GHUs have focused the ethics of international adoption, the opioid epidemic, and the diverse identities found in St. Louis. Furthermore, we often bring in guest speakers from local organizations, such as Missouri Planned Parenthood.

Advocacy

GlobeMed members actively engage in activism for social justice issues in the WashU and St. Louis communities. In the past, students have connected with STL immigrant and refugee communities at a benefit dinner, attended protests in downtown St. Louis, and distributed information on voting in Missouri primaries. Our advocacy chairs promote awareness on local & national social justice issues and work with our GHU co-coordinators to identify actionable items every week.

Hilltop

Hilltop is our annual conference focused on a topic of global health. Throughout the conference, members of our chapter/other chapters and other WashU students engage with a specific theme, such community health work, reproductive healthcare, and health and human rights. Past keynote speakers include Dr. Paul Farmer (a founder of Partners in Health), Latanya Mapp Frett (Exec. Director of Planned Parenthood Global), and Barbara Pierce Bush (founder of Global Health Corps).

Community Building

Our commitment to community building is truly what makes GlobeMed a… community. Community building events include semesterly retreats, fun activities at every chapter (like making TikToks), an annual formal, and our beloved new-member Jeni’s trip. Despite being a large group, we strive to all be one family :).
