Our Partner: Uganda Health and Development Associates
Our Partnership
Our partnership model is built on the idea that the local communities are the only communities that have the ability, knowledge, and power to truly create change. Since 2008, the GlobeMed chapter at Washington University in St. Louis has been partnered with Uganda Development and Health Associates (UDHA), a grassroots NGO organized around improving the lives of women and children across Eastern Uganda. Our partnership prioritizes mutual decision-making, constant communication, and prioritizing local voices. Furthermore, every summer, for eight weeks, we send a team of four to six interns to learn about the day-to-day functions of UDHA. We have raised over $300,000 to support Uganda Development and Health Associates initiatives and are dedicated to raising $20,000 annually.
About Uganda Development and Health Associates
Uganda Development and Health Associates (UDHA) is a grassroots NGO formed in 2003 to provide reproductive health, youth empowerment, child health, and HIV/AIDS services in the districts of Iganga, Mayuge, and Luuka in eastern Uganda. UDHA’s mission is “to engage a multi-sectoral approach and professional approach with strong community participation and ownership for the enhancement of reproductive health, rights, and empowerment for young people.” GlobeMed at WashU fully funds two projects, the Youth Resource Center and the Rural Health Empowerment Project, and works closely with UDHA to ensure the sustainability of these projects. During the summer Globemed members support UDHA through in-person and virtual GROW( grassroots onsite work) internships.
About Omprakash
Omprakash is a recently formed partnership as of 2023 after the closing of Globemed HQ that provides Globemed at Washu with fiscal sponsorship and 501(c)(3) status. We use the platform to recruit volunteers and interns, raise funds, and connect with other global health equity organizations. Through omprakash’s EdGE program, we’re working towards accrediting the GROW internship opportunity and reinventing global social impact efforts in ways that disrupt paternalism and inequality and strive for more radical learning and social change.
