New to the Institute for Public Health and the Global Health Center as a member of the Institute’s Faculty Scholar program, Professor Llibre-Guerra is interested in expanding multidisciplinary collaborations in the study of neurodegeneration. His current research focuses on the genetic pathways of neurodegeneration and their influence on the life-course of Alzheimer’s Disease, including age at onset, cognitive decline, and rate of change in biomarkers. His research has made significant progress in estimating the epidemiology and burden of neurodegenerative diseases in Latin America, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease-related dementias. He has presented his work at a monthly Global Health Work in Progress meeting organized by the Global Health Center.
Since 2018, Llibre-Guerra has worked with the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network Trials Unit at Washington University, where he serves as assistant director and leads research efforts to expand observational studies and clinical trials for Hispanic and Latino populations.
By collaborating with the Global Health Center, Llibre-Guerra says he hopes to expand his global research network while engaging with other Faculty Scholars. He anticipates that these partnerships will enable a multidisciplinary and more comprehensive approach to his research goals. He added, “I also hope to share my research experiences and support future global health scholars and trainees.”
