As part of the effort to include a “global perspective” as one of the guiding principles of Washington University’s strategic plan, the Global Health Center at the Institute for Public Health and its university partner, McDonnell International Scholars Academy, announce a new Global Health Seed Funding effort. The funding effort, which accepts applications from Aug. 15 to Oct. 15, is designed to collect pilot data for future extramural funding proposals. The goal is to help stimulate new global health research collaborations, strengthen existing partnerships and projects and help faculty become more competitive for larger, extramural grant opportunities. The Global Health Seed Funding effort also helps illuminate the university’s goal of “being a community of people driven to meet the world’s challenges.” Read about previous seed funding rounds that demonstrate success toward the University’s goal.
This call for applications will focus particularly on awarding seed funding to research teams that show a need to collect pilot data in support for subsequent applications for large extramural research awards. The call fulfills one of the major goals of the Global Health Center: To stimulate and promote research geared towards improving health systems and health care on a global scale.

One WashU faculty and one McDonnell International Scholars Academy partner institution faculty are required as multiple principal investigators for each application. Others are also eligible to be a part of the application team. Up to $25,000 is allotted per award and a total of $100,000 in funding is available for one year of support.

Researchers have from August 15 until November 15 at 5 p.m. CDT to submit a project application centering on transdisciplinary global health. Global Health Center faculty and staff with relevant global health experience, in coordination with the McDonnell International Scholars Academy and the Brown School, will review all applications. Grant recipients will present their research findings at the next McDonnell Academy International Symposium.
