WUSTL Glaciology
WUSTL Glaciology is a new research group at Washington University led by Dr. Dougal Hansen, who joins the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences in Summer 2025.
We combine novel experimental methods, field work, and numerical models to investigate the complex dynamics of glaciers and their influence on the landscape. Our work seeks to understand the physical processes that influence glacier motion, erosion, water flux, and the production and distribution of sediment in cold regions. Insights gained from this research are aimed at improving ice sheet models and predictions of sea level rise, as well as enhancing our understanding of climate evolution on geologic timescales.
