To build this archive, we have started an MGI Archive Internship. We are looking forward to hosting our first intern this summer. Opportunities in the fall will open for application in June.
Internship Opportunities
Hours: Temporary, part-time, $20/hour with maximum of 20 hours a week
Primary Function: The MGI Archive Intern will be creating, organizing and updating the MGI archive in addition to collecting and transcribing oral histories from staff.
Essential Functions include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The Archival Intern will be involved in the following activities:
- Gather and sort all archival materials located throughout the institute.
- Using best practices of archival management to arrange and process the collected materials into an institutional archive.
- Using best practices of archival management to arrange the digital records and media of MGI.
- Prepare a finding guide for the archive.
- Create a physical or digital display within the MGI spaces as an internship project.
- Conduct and transcribe oral histories of long-term staff at MGI.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Ability to work in a variety of environments, lift objects up to 25 lbs., and move boxes.
- College and Graduate Student Interns: A degree in biology, archives, library and information science, public history or museum studies or working toward such a degree or substantial related experience. A basic knowledge of genomics preferred.
- High School Interns: An interest in STEM, public history, museum studies, history of science, or digital communication. Basic biology classes required.
