Author’s Note
When centered between green, for the land, and red, for Black and Indigenous pain, loss, and protest, Vermilion is a hue representative of inter-communal unity and livingness.
Existing at the convergence of Black and Red power, Vermilion is the color of life and indicative of multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-generational environmental justice efforts.
Vermilion represents the life that persists through unified, parallel, and complementary efforts by Black and Indigenous people to combat environmental racism and ultimately free the land.
