With goals of transparency and equity, we are revising our policy on STAR supplements. The new policy is as follows:
- Each faculty member has a STAR budget. If additional funds are needed, supplement requests will need to be submitted through a new online form: STAR Supplement Requests. Requests should include a justification for the additioal funds requested and a description of year-to-date spending.
- There will be an annual school budget for STAR supplements. If the budget is exhausted, the Vice Dean for Senior Faculty and Research and the SAD of Finance and Operations will discuss with the Dean whether additional funding can be made available.
- Supplement requests will be evaluated periodically by the Vice Dean for Senior Faculty and Research. When necessary, the Vice Dean may charge a standing committee consisting of three senior faculty with reviewing the request(s) and providing a recommendation.
- Requests will be filled subject to keeping YTD spending within YTD budget.
- If requests exceed current budget, priority for funding will be given as follows:
- Direct support for research
- Research subject platforms
- Travel and related costs for field experiments
- Data purchase not covered elsewhere
- Computer equipment
- Conference travel when on a conference program
- Other travel
- Business class airfare, subject to policy
- Maximum of 3 non-teaching-related business class trips per faculty per year (additional trips within budget must be approved by the Vice Dean for Senior Faculty).
- Direct support for research
