The objectives of our bike sharing program using wireless sensor networks are as follows:

  1. We are designing a prototype to model a bike sharing program using a wireless sensor network. The model will consist of two nodes that each communicate its state and relative location to the nearest of two gateway nodes.
  2. We are designing the wireless sensor network so that it is capable of sensing the presence of sharable bikes within the sensing range of each individual hub. The main challenge here is to ensure the scalability of the WSN over the Danforth Campus. Furthermore, the WSN should be reliable and update in real time.
  3. We are scripting the software side of the model so that it is capable of assigning available bikes to users as well as recording user information.
  4. We are also designing a way to locate a bike’s method using triangulation.
