Each BRSS team member is personally committed to issues of diversity, inclusion and social justice. In addition, the team has undergone a thorough training process that includes information on diversity and bias, active listening, and campus resources. Members receive over 20 hours of training before their appointment and continued training during their tenure on the committee.

Assistant Director

Purvi Patel is the assistant director of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion and serves as the coordinator of the BRSS process. Purvi is originally from Dallas, Texas and completed her B.A. in History at Loyola University Chicago and her M.A. in College Student Personnel at Bowling Green State University.

Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs & CDI Dean

Emelyn dela Peña, EdD, recently joined Washington University in St. Louis as the new Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of the Center for Diversity and Inclusion (CDI). In her new role, dela Peña will lead the work of the CDI, which provides support and advocacy for students from traditionally underrepresented or marginalized populations and creates collaborative partnerships with campus and community members to promote dialogue and social change.
