Professor Sadat Speaks at ICC Assembly of State Parties

In December 2024, the Assembly of State Parties (ASP) to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) convened in The Hague, The Netherlands. Professor Leila Nadya Sadat, Director of the Crimes Against Humanity Initiative and James Carr Professor of International Law at WashU Law, discussed the forthcoming Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes Against Humanity at two ASP side-events.

The first event was a workshop tailored for civil society organizations. Professor Sadat shed light on the next steps of treaty negotiations and the critical role of civil society in ensuring the treaty is inclusive and comprehensive.

The second event was a panel discussion on gender justice. Professor Sadat discussed the crime of forced marriage and the opportunity presented by the treaty to model gender-competent, survivor-centric justice. A recording of the panel is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mt-AiY_JWMo
