Professor Sadat Delivers 2025 Nuremberg Lecture

On April 1, 2025, Professor Leila Nadya Sadat—Director of the Crimes Against Humanity Initiative and James Carr Professor of International Criminal Law at Washington University School of Law—delivered the fourth Nuremberg Academy lecture. Her remarks are now available to watch here.

Professor Sadat’s lecture, titled “The Long Arc of Justice: Forging a Convention for Crimes Against Humanity,” explored the history of crimes against humanity in international law and recent developments to codify a treaty on its prevention and punishment. Professor Sadat emphasized that the “treaty and the hope it represents is not just a piece of paper: It is a promise to survivors.”

The lecture was delivered at the historic Courtroom 600 of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice, the location of the Nuremberg Trials.
