Computer Evolution of Conway’s Game of Life on an FPGA Coprocessor


 

Genetic algorithms are programs which find optimized solutions to problems simulating evolution and natural selection on a population of potential solutions.  Our project is to build an FPGA coprocessor to assist in running a genetic algorithm that produces dynamic seeds for Conway’s Game of Life.  This should both produce interesting and novel seeds, and it should provide a platform with which we can formally study the importance and effects of various implementations of genetic algorithms.
