Blueprint for Longevity: Implementing Blue ZonesTM principles in our communities

The 24th Annual Friedman Lecture will feature keynote speaker, Kimberly C. Porter, Transformations Director for Blue ZonesTM and a panel of regional implementers. The lecture will focus on the international Blue ZonesTM movement, its principles and what implementation looks like in different communities across the US. The discussion will center on living long and healthy lives in our communities here in St. Louis. This event will also include a presentation for awards for the Harvey A. and Dorismae Hacker Friedman Award, the Alene and Meyer Kopolow Award and the Mark S. Wrighton Graduate Student in Aging Research Award.

Kimberly C. Porter

Transformations Director, Blue Zones

With over 25 years of experience in adult education, community development, and well-being initiatives, Kimberly C. Porter is a seasoned professional dedicated to creating positive, sustainable change. She currently serves as the Transformations Director at Blue Zones Project, LLC. Before joining Blue Zones she led the development and expansion of training initiatives across 78+ Blue Zones communities. Kimberly was also actively engaged in the Sharecare Diversity Program and served as the Chair for the Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Community of Practice at Blue Zones Project. Additionally, she managed community strategy and neighborhood initiatives across the largest Blue Zones Community to date, Fort Worth, Texas.

Attendance

This annual event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The event will be held on WashU’s Danforth Campus in Emerson Auditorium in Knight Hall, detailed instructions on parking and location can be found below. Light breakfast will be provided for all attendees.

  • 8:30am – 9:00am: Registration & Breakfast (food and drinks cannot be taken into the auditorium and must be finished before the lecture)
  • 9:00am – 9:30am: Welcome & Awards Presentation
  • 9:30am – 11:30am: Keynote presentation & panel discussion
Directions & Parking

Emerson auditorium is located in Knight Hall on the first floor. Knight Hall (146 on the campus map) is located at Throop Drive and Snow Way Dr., for GPS purposes you can enter 1194 Throop Dr., St. Louis, MO 63130.

Visitor parking is available on the 4th floor of the Millbrook parking Garage (202 on the campus map). Please be sure to park only in visitor spaces.

Awards

Each year, the Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging presents two awards at the Annual Friedman Lecture & Awards. Nominations are now being accepted for the Harvey A. and Dorismae Hacker Friedman Award for Excellence in Service to Older Adults and the Alene and Meyer Kopolow Award for Geriatrics, Psychiatry and Neurology. Nominations will be accepted until March 5, 2025. More information and nomination form can be found on the Friedman Lecture page.

During the awards presentation, additional awards are given to the winners of the 3MT Competition in Aging. Two graduate students will be awarded with the Mark S. Wrighton Graduate Student Research in Aging award. Graduate students in aging can apply to compete and all are welcome to attend the competition on March 19.
