Applications are now open for the new McDonnell Neuroscience Postdoctoral Travel Award offered by the McDonnell Center for Cellular & Molecular Neurobiology and the McDonnell Center for Systems Neuroscience. This award offers valuable support for postdocs in the Washington University community.

Support is available to current postdocs at Washington University to attend important conferences or courses not typically supported by a postdoc’s lab. Examples of eligible activities include (but are not limited to) international conferences, such as OHBM, FLUX, FENS, IBRO and/or other specialist conferences, and courses offered through Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme.

To apply, the postdoc should complete the form below and upload documents where requested. The following will need to be provided:

1. Letter of support from applicant’s WU faculty mentor to attend the conference or course.

2. Applicant’s CV.

3. Either a) if attending a conference, an abstract of the work the applicant will be presenting as either a poster or talk (applicants must be presenting their work generated at Washington University) or b) if attending a course, a letter from the applicant explaining how the course will be of benefit to their scientific career plans.

4. Budget of all proposed expenses – applicants may request up to $5,000.

Applications can be made at any time during the year but should be within one year of the conference or course. The most optimal time to apply is after the applicant has had their abstract accepted for a presentation at the conference. Applicants can only receive funding once through this program.

Eligibility: At the time of application, applicants must have been employed at Washington University in St. Louis for at least one year, must be within the first five years full-time equivalent following the conferral of their PhD and cannot be employed as a staff scientist, senior scientist or instructor. There are no requirements of citizenship or permanent residency status.
