Michael is a graduate student with Dr. Todd Braver. He received B.A.s in Psychology and in Zoology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he studied neural mechanisms of visual working memory and attention in Dr. Brad Postle’s lab. Michael then worked for three years in Dr. Nazbanou Nozari’s lab at Johns Hopkins, investigating cognitive mechanisms of executive control in language production (her lab has since moved to Carnegie Mellon). Broadly, he is interested in investigating task-related representations in human prefrontal cortex, with the goal of understanding how specific properties of these representations contribute to our capacity for flexible, non-habitual behavior. His graduate research will use fMRI pattern analysis methods, and in part will assess the efficacy of such methods in addressing prefrontal function.
