Need Statement
There exists a need for a method to better train users of inhalers on proper inhaler use techniques to maximize medicine transmission efficacy for patients with chronic respiratory conditions or illnesses.
Project Scope
Patients with inhalers often receive inadequate coaching or instruction on how to use their inhalers properly, reducing the efficacy of the medicine delivered through the inhaler. Thus, there is a need for a method or device to better train inhaler users on the proper technique in using an inhaler to maximize drug delivery efficiency. The primary design specifications include a handheld, portable device under 250 g. The device should incorporate biometrics in its inhaler proficiency assessment, such as the measurement of total lung air capacity, forced expiratory volume, peak expiratory flow, and other common respiratory metrics. We will deliver a physical prototype and documentation, including a full user manual, to the client by April 28, 2025.
