The leading cause of maternal death in Nigeria is hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. There is a need for an out-of-hospital blood pressure monitoring system to record maternal postpartum blood pressure as an early indicator of cardiovascular disease.
The main customer specifications include translating the blood pressure cuff output into one of three local languages and using the product in a resource-limited setting without reliable cellular access. A broader need is to increase the accessibility of blood pressure monitoring information for both patients and healthcare providers in the six weeks following delivery. Completion of the project will be signified by the prototype and documentation delivered to the client by the beginning of April.
