Week 12 Report (11/19)

On Tuesday, we met to continue researching our potential solutions. We ran a test attempting to collect data from the current based drilling solution but found it difficult to collect any data due to a large noise. We determined the next step here to talk to Ziang. For the NIR solution, we did a closer look at the cost and methods involved. We put a google doc together detailing the pricing of the different routes we could go with that solution. We also determined the next step for this solution was to talk to Ziang.

On Friday we met with Ziang to discuss our progress on our potential solutions. We brought up the noise issue we had with the oscilloscope to him. After some debate, he recommended we use a DAQ to collect some data and to also build an amplifier circuit. For the NIR solution, he recommended that we do a proof of concept in the cheapest manner possible.

Also on Friday, we met in the teaching lab in Brauer to use the DAQ to collect data for the current based drilling solution. Using the CNC, some scrap wood, and the DAQ, we collected data on LabChart. The results were quite promising but need to be correlated to step size to see the relationship. We also plan to look at the derivative of the data.
