Winn-Dixie Loses ADA Fight Over Website Accessibility

Winn-Dixie was recently found in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act by a Miami federal judge for failing to make its website accessible to the visually impaired. The Miami-based grocery chain will set aside $250,000 to upgrade its site and was ordered to pay legal fees. Juan Gil, a legally blind Miami resident, brought the case. Juan was unable to use a screen reader to order a prescription and look up store hours. Winn Dixie recently spent $7 million to update its website in September 2015. The upgrade did not include discussions of accessibility, court records showed.
