1. Submit a new project form
Tell us as much as you can about your intended project. Don’t worry if you don’t have all the details worked out yet. We’ll guide you through the process.
2. Meet to discuss the project
After we receive your new project form, we’ll set up a time to meet and discuss next steps. Our specialty is helping new researchers plan projects.
3. Write the protocol
We can help you develop novel procedures and create protocols or identify existing protocols that match your project goals.
4. Get IACUC approval
It can take several months to have a project approved depending on whether it meets IACUC requirements and when the IACUC committee meets. Projects are often returned for review and re submission.
5. Schedule the procedure
Once approved you can contact the core to schedule your project. Timing of your project will depend on personnel availability.
6. Pre-surgery
Where IACUC policy allows, we’ll ask you to bring the animals to the core the day before surgery to acclimate. For stereotaxic surgery, we ask you to provide additional animals to check target accuracy if required.
