Akilah is a PhD candidate in the Public Health Sciences program and a National Institute of Mental Health T32 Predoctoral Fellow. She grew up in a family of Caribbean immigrants in the New York metro area and received her BA in public health from the University of Rochester. In 2015, Akilah received her MPH in sociomedical sciences from Columbia University while providing research support for the New York State Psychiatric Institute and NYC Department of Education. Before arriving at the Brown School, Akilah led and supported a range of research studies for the Department of Family & Social Medicine and the Rose F. Kennedy Children’s Evaluation & Rehabilitation Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine located in Bronx, New York.
