Joseph Ouma was a Senior Biostatistician at Makerere University-John’s Hopkins University Research Collaboration (MUJHU), Kampala Uganda. He held a Bachelor of Science and Master of Statistics from Makerere University and a PhD in Public Health, Biostatistics from the University of Witwatersrand. He had expertise in modeling, prediction and novel use of available data to highlight sampling bias, retention and loss to follow-up. Dr. Ouma had over 15 years’ experience in the management and analysis of large dataset using varied methodologies. He developed and applied methods that used existing population survey and routine data to identify service performance gaps. His goals were to develop and apply statistical approaches using data science tools to promote use of big data. He managed multiple projects including an International COVID19 Data Alliance (ICODA) funded project in Uganda that aimed to advance open science and promote FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable) principles. He served as a peer reviewer and (co-)authored papers published in peer reviewed international journals.
