Eric Agyemang, PhD, MSW

Dr. Eric Opoku Agyemang is currently a Research Scientist at the University of Washington’s Social Development Research Group. Dr. Agyemang obtained his Ph.D. in Social Welfare and a concurrent Graduate Certificate in International Development Policy and Management from the University of Washington. He also holds a Master’s in Social Work (Administration and Policy) from the University of Washington and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Management from the Methodist University of Ghana. Dr. Agyemang has over 15 years of non-profit management and executive-level leadership. Prior to his graduate education, he served as co-founder and executive director of the Cheerful Hearts Foundation, where he uses community-based approaches to addressing child trafficking issues in Ghana. Additionally, he founded the Patriots Ghana in 2009 to advance youth leadership and women empowerment (financial independence and women in science) in Ghana.
Dr. Agyemang’s Research focuses on advancing healthy youth development through mental health, education, and human rights initiatives in Ghana and the United States. Dr. Agyemang’s primary interest is testing community-based interventions that advance child trafficking prevention and the mental health and well-being of victims of child labor trafficking, using implementation science. Aside from publishing papers on community-based prevention of child trafficking in Ghana, he is a reviewer for various journals, including the Journal of Human Trafficking (JHT).
